Should We Have Hate Crime Laws or Even Believe in Hate Crimes? (Dehumanization Thought Experiment)

We have been debating in society hate, racism, discrimination and corruption for a long time. It never truly gets solved. Most of society would like to see us treat each other with dignity and respect but some of us don't and those that don't seem to sometimes get the upper hand in justice outcomes. That isn't always the case. Sometimes we might consider strengthening hate crimes laws as most people seem to support them. Individual Variation in Hate Crimes. (I'm not picking a political argument here. Politics is the lowest of all considerations when it comes to generational contracts. I'm saying that generally certain oaths and values apply to all people so anything we can do to support that would make sense.)

I once conducted a thought experiment on what it would look like if local laws defaulted, corruption was rampant, and people were dehumanized. Perpetrators were intentionally manipulating a local clan system, targeting the victims wherever they went, and trying to cause as much harm as they could through false rumors and close friendships to affiliates with access to institutional resources (i.e. corruption). It didn't turn out well. Almost no crime against the victims was investigated (the victims were the true target of clan officials and their efforts) and the victims of the past and the future were muted to ensure those of the clan were rewarded and never held to account (Its not about getting people in trouble it is about protecting future victims, standing by oaths, and ensuring a brighter future.) Civil and Human rights were seen as a dirty word and the idea of justice thrown into the same boiling pot.

(If you recently watch Wicked you will know what I'm talking about. She was treated inhumanely and people praised her demise even though she was one of the few out there who had values and the independence to stand for those values. Stories are meant to teach. The story has lots of layers of truth. Its not a liberal or conservative idea. We all are entitled to civil and kind treatment. i.e. silencing the animals as the story says.)

What we learn from this example is that failures are completely preventable and can be corrected if people act on their professed oaths and in good moral conscious. However, if hate is more important than doing what is right then justice becomes more or less theoretical and theatrical in nature.  Not until we change as people and we ensure the laws protect certain sacred values will the trends of trust be reversed. The application of justice should not be misused to further one's racial, religious, political, or clan affiliations.

We furthered this thought experiment to a dehumanization process as a direct result of extreme injustice where it is clear that there are two different classes of people with different laws applied for for each. For example if your poor your unlikely to get the same treatment is if you are rich or perhaps in Wicked if you are green or worship in the wrong way you are unlikely to have the same protections as others. It is just an ugly thing that exists in people's decision making process (It is also something we as a society typically have stood against. For example, a Germanic grandfather who fought against the Natzis who also had partial Jewish ancestory. Perhaps people who fought to end slavery but know that segregation in some places persist because of those who decided to allow such values on a social level to exist. Basically anyone who is different can be a target and stripped of their dignity. Those were real men and women who believed in what they were doing.... in supporting humanity and fair treatment. Those values could fade if we are not careful.).

Good thing it is a thought experiment because it is some very scarry stuff if we do not stay aligned to our soul as a people and the purpose of our existence.  Inhumanity has been known to creep up in history from time to time and that has led to all types of concerns. The people who defaulted in their decision making did not know that their choices would lead to a chain of events (i.e. Tusa Massacre). Learning about hate and listening to victims helps to protect from repeating them. Freedom of speech is important. It is useless if we do not have the freedom to self reflect.

Once you have been dehumanized, all the protections removed and criminal behaviors rewarded you accept your place in society. It is the lowest of all places. Barely tolerated, discredited, few protections, few rights to contribute, and generally unlikely to ever to be seen as having value. There are no recourses anywhere in the system for such people (Its not true but hate supporters seek to embed that belief on victims. Its part of that dehumanization process. In some places that is illegal in other places they don't report hate crimes as a matter of unofficial policy. More true if clan members are involved. ).  If such values spread it might limit most of society and derail a nations development.

Do we need to strengthen hate laws, whistle blower rights, or victims protection? There isn't much of a point of passing new laws if the spirit of current laws passed are not fully enforced. They become just things on paper...the torch goes out (It had a dramatic flair but the point is that each intentional or unintentional failure leads to an outcome. We should always support the higher moral order versus the lower orders.).

From this we should start to learn the importance of democracy, our social contracts and supporting good values in society that draw as many people to a greater end as possible. I'm more conservative than most other people...all life has value.

*This is a thought experiment on exploring hate and dehumanization in society. It is meant for learning purposes only as a theoretical example. It is also meant to get you to think about what is most important in our society and how to build the best society we can. Even when it is opposed by some.

2024 Higher Education Trends: There is More to it Than That!

Considering that my blog is sometimes focused on really important things that are at times not seen as important (i.e. central American values) it is helpful to delve into other important topics such as Higher Education. How can we build a great nation without thinking about the human capital that will be the one primary overriding input on how technology is used to create real value for American people.

Sorry.....I digress and the soap box is slide over.

2024 Higher Education Trends: There is More to it than that!

Higher education is in the cusp of change and as structures are in the process of changing within our society, they are likely going to impact higher education at a faster pace. Jobs are changing, nations are becoming more competitive, and employers need new skills in order to succeed on the global market (assuming they are thinking about enhancing our country and not others.). The same can be said for new businesses and entrepreneurs that will reach for enhanced skills to find their niche. That means there will be increasing pressure on older structures to adjust to allow for newer structures.

Despite the change in technology the same process of philosophers conversing under an olive tree and across virtual mediums is relatively the same in terms of transference of knowledge. The quality of the education and its outcomes as it influences life quality and income capacity will be central. Old physical structures are still needed, and online portable structures can comingle to create different learning interfaces and touch points.

A few  quick thoughts on what some institutions can do to enhance quality and outcomes....

1. Align to industry needs as much as possible. Skills needed by the maret.

2. Enhance the individual through self-awareness so that thought processes are updated. The whole person approaches.

3. Teach basic civic, ethical and moral values. We must live in a society, and these are our future leaders so they will need a basic value set and ways of interacting. Same stuff religious and secular philosophers have discussed since the advent of society.

4. Respect of knowledge and lifelong learning to encourage continuous growth throughout one's life thereby enhancing the amount of human capital and the quality of that human capital in the market.

5. Applied theory that ensures that future leaders know how to take the rapid change in technology and science and put it to good use for national innovation.

6. Got any thoughts of your own?

Liquidity and Stock Trading Turnover Increases Investment Return in Machine Driven Trading

Liquidity and turnover appears to be helpful in some trading scenarios. According to a study liquidity and turnover in machine driven trading increases investment returns. Machine Learning and Liquidity in Stock Return From a transactional perspective this would make sense if the reasons for the turn over is truly market driven. While this is a study of the stock market we can say that all economies have turnover based in transations. Generally, from my theory the increase in transactions increases adaptations and that in turn increases investment return within a cluster. It aligns, but unsure of exactly how, where increases in trade volume also seems to increase in returns. This may mean there could be some similarities in stock, decision influence, and innovative performance that leads to higher performance. Or not...I'm just thinking about it and taking a broad view but I would think there is some relation between them. (PS. while looking for this study I also found one on Bitcoin and Gold Trading. Bitcoin is all the buzz! )

We are just exploring ideas in this blog. Things have to be looked at much closer to understand fully or whether or not even possible.

Checking out my stock portfolion I find that I have about a 62.93% increase since I started it just to determine whether its possible to beat the market. i.e. more seasoned investors. I looked a while ago and it seems like I was at least on par or just over. In this cases I'm not sure because the major upswing in the market is very recent. Interestingly I just recently bought into a AI company and have a 11% increase. Apparently the companyannouced  being under a securities fraud investigation increases its value. I learn something new every day 🤷

Managers Can Boost Performance Through Public Praise (Research)

Sometimes it can be difficult to motivate the workforce and encourage a strong organizational culture. It has been found that those who praise the performance and skills of others can raise overall performance according to the study Manager's Praise Boosts Productivity. There are a few mitigating aspects such as closeness and knowledge of the subject of praise when people were close or distant but overall, it’s a good idea.

Managers often set expectations through performing and explaining what activities or attributes led to success. Others who are similarly motivated often look at the examples as pathways for themselves.

A couple of tips I have learned over the year.

1. Have an idea of what type of skills you want to enhance and praise those. The type of skills you need should be part of the overall short, mid and long term strategic plan.

2. Be genuine in that praise and share what they did based on what you want emulated by other employees. Make sure the people you are promoting are good organizational citizens so when their name is announced it resonates properly by people who know that person.

3. Be diverse in the sense that you can draw as many people into performance as possible. Organizations that can manage in a globally diverse and complex environment are likely to hedge their best skills.

Dehumanization Thought Experiment Rethink. Totally Wicked!

Sometimes when exploring an idea in hypothetical you can become aware of the potential risks and therefore need to be mindful of the possibilities of it all. Thus, sometimes instead of taking a narrow focused lens, which was started in that way, we now should think more broadly. The risks of the dehumanization thought experiment could be true under certain rules and expectations. Untrue/unlikely in others. Further, we might struggle to learn from history so some of the best ideas go silent and stop signs ignored.

However, let us just explore more broadly because the conversation is an important one to strengthen those values in which most of us believe and that which should be our northern star going forward (We can sort of put the others on hold for a moment.). Its just important to think about even though such conversations are sort of frowned on (not sure why because they can help us as a society.).

In the hypothetical example used much of the mistreatment of others was based in the interpersonal clan based relationships that impacted institutional decision processes as it relates to some victims/targets. The degrees of perceived differences seemed to make a big difference in outcomes even though these were very superficial in nature (There are differences but from the same clan origin). Likewise, social heirarchy (first and second or hometown team) may also have impacted outcomes.

According to this study dehumanization occurs in interpersonal relationships. When you read the study think about what that means if some hold values designed to strip the dignity of others and in turn have the power to force misaligned outcomes.

Dehumanization: Beyond Intergroup to the Interpersonal

What was the one thing you learn about group hate?

What did you learn about individual interpersonal hate?

If you want to limit the spread of dehumanization but don't want to have social backlash for having a moral conscious what are some of the small things you can do?

Could there be long term economic consequences if dehumanizaiton spreads?

BTW if you watched Wicked and understood the deeper meaning of the story they are also teaching values of how perception and reality are not always the same just because someone/some people are different or some someone/some poeple want something and talk the loudest. Who doesn't love flying monkeys? There are good people teaching good things out there.

Federal Reserve Releases Nov. 2024 Stability Report: Eyeballing Debt/Default and Ways to Increase Localized Investment

The Federal Reserve released their Nov. 2024 Stability Report. a few key points include higher leverage (business and consumer), auto and credit card deliquency higher, banking system strong, local banks maintain liquidity, and some reforms helped reduce cost. You can read the Federal Reserve Stability Report

You can also watch the video below for a summary. I have a similar understanding of what the report says but I'm a little concerned about debt across multiple facets such as business, government (not included in report), and households. Credit card and auto loans delinquences are up but its not yet a major risk. Certainly something to keep an eye on.

(Let us explore an idea just for a structural giggle. I'm not advocating but I'm just thinking about it a little.  Some experts believe that high debt is ok but I'm of the mindset it is better to be lower in debt and higher in investment assets. Thinking of ways to limit debit and in turn put that money into U.S. based investments for a higher ROI, vs. paying interest, could be helpful in the long-run. When we have a large percentage of society paying interest, the potential revenue is increasingly funneled through fewer hands and a lot of that money could be be leaking outside the U.S.. It would be nice to invest more in U.S. companies. i.e. if you have or start a U.S. company investment capital is readily available. One has to do some research to know whether that is true or structurally possible but its just an idea on one unexamined way to spur American business. A more direct relationship between investors and business. Just sort of dribbling out something to think about in terms of creating that perpetual sustainable economy. Could be the worst idea but didn't think about it enough to know one way or another.)
