The Hypothetical Feather Party Encourages Americans to Make Decisions for Americans

It can be said that one of the greatest joys of life is to do the right thing by as many people as we possibly can. The Hypothetical Feather Party is a thought experiment that helps to teach others about democracy, how it can function, where it can improve, and what it does well. Keep in mind that the blog itself is about national improvement and advancement so expect those kinds of discussions. The Hypothetical Feather party does not exist in real form and is more or less provides thought provoking discussion on important topics but you as the reader must come to your own conclusions. 

This piece is about making decisions for Americans and avoiding any outside influence in that decision making process. We are a big nation and there are lots of people, governments, entities, organizations, groups, etc. that seek to influence our decision making processes. Thus, taking a few minutes to think about the importance of making decisions in the best interest of Americans first (i.e. the benefit of all) versus any other interest is important. Reflective thinking is what helps make a democracy thrive generation after generation. The Influence of Strategic Thinking on Organizational Performance

There are bad actors in the world who do want to manipulate to achieve agendas and goals in ways that do not put America's needs first. Whether that negative influence comes from social media manipulation, business contracts, campaign donations, or social networks it is important for Americans to keep the needs of the nation central to their daily objectives. Wise leaders should seek to minimize outside misinformation as much as possible.

While it might seem obvious, it is incumbent on every American to uphold freedom of religion, freedom of speech and the Constitution as social contracts to further ensure American interests are central. Freedom of speech being central to good decision making and exploration of ideas for analysis. By being thoughtful in our thinking helps to strengthen the republic, centralize focus by both parties (or none) on national development, and create additional partners and allies to further democracy's mandate on human freedom and self rule.  

Leadership is about creating vision and inspiring people to reach with heart and soul for that shared vision. In any voting cycle it is your responsibility as a free person to vote what is in the best interest of the nation (Hence the term free). Take a few moments to think of that before casting your ballot or supporting/rejecting ideas without critical examination. Then vote with confidence whatever way your moral conscious leads you because we will all share in those collective choices and outcomes.

Delta County of Michigan Commissioner Meeting (07/02/2024): Teaming Together To Move the Furthest

Learning how governance functions in real world applications is important for finding ways to improve governance in other locations so as to maximize the benefits of that learning. In this meeting you will notice discussions on procedures, community issues, and suggestions for enhancing the area. Community growth doesn't happen overnight but is a process of making choices that leads to win-win outcomes. When people share a vision and they adjust their daily decisions to those larger goals, regardless of personal differences, they are going to develop. This committee has the underpinnings that could lead to future area growth but only time will tell whether that happens. Over the past few decades the area has seen population decline and that trend appears to be reversing with new investments and interests. 

I'm not so concerned about which decisions are made but the ability to make them in a way that reflects the community's needs. Making some kind of decision is often better in the long run then not being able to make decisions where things get sticky. There was some discussion about further engaging the community in some parts of the meeting. Some excellent comments on potential growth at the airport, listening to residents, taking care of abused kids (I hate when people do this to kids. Selfish!), increased prosecutor complaints and much more.

This is how things work in the real world. So far they are getting it done and moving forward and that is something to applaud. Its not going to be perfect every time and there are going to be challenges to ideas. That is natural. The key issue being how to get everyone into a general framework of what would help the community. That comes from good teams that can form a vision and coordinate that with other local entities (i.e. Escanaba, Gladstone, Businesses) to enact that vision. 

I could go on and on about coordinated visions and aligning actions to those agreed upon vision/strategic plans. Consider that if local governance is success here it would help teach others the benefits of effective management with people working together on shared basic goals. Democracy functions best at the community level where everyone does their part for the best interests of the whole. 💁 The key question by listeners, watchers, participants, readers, etc. is, "How do I contribute to my community's success?

Conducting Organizational Research

Conducting organizational research takes some planning to implement and integrate successfully. The process, instruments and methods are aligned around organizational needs. Therefore, one would start with the objectives or goals that need to be accomplished and then move onto other facets. These could include customer retention, value of a product on the market, improving innovation, training new recruits, or whatever else the organization needs.

Once you have the objectives it is beneficial to review the organizations processes to determine if there are current metrics that can be used to accomplish data collection. Many organizations have mounds of data right under their nose and they don't know it. Talking to organizational players can help determine what metrics are available and solidify a functional research question. 

Sometimes you can tweak existing metrics and sometimes you may need to create new ones. Existing metrics may be close but not close enough to be of decision making value. One might alternatively consider a battery of metrics. Some level of literature research is helpful in ensuring that constructs are valid and they are measuring what they say they are measuring.

Before engaging in large scale metric analysis one would want to ensure there is a level of validity to those measures. Testing measurements in a smaller batch samples could help determine their functionality and representativeness. Did they actually answer the question? Is the information beneficial in making a strategic action plan? 

Collecting and scrubbing the data helps in keeping it clean and representative of organizational phenomenon. The collection process can should be thought out to ensure purity of the data. Such data protection and cleaning is necessary to ensure the information is useful for strategic analysis. One would encode that data and put it within a spreadsheet or software for analysis. 

Once you have some strong conclusions and statistically significant results it becomes possible to consider how those conclusions help the business. Implementation of change is one of the most difficult and you might want to rely on executives to design the implementation process based on their needs. A researcher can provide some guidance but ultimately the internal/external customer must use their knowledge to determine how best to use the new discoveries.

When They Know its Wrong? (A Theoretical Discussion on Improvement and Preserving a Free Democracy)

 We are an intelligent species and most people know the difference between right and wrong. The difficulties arise when the intent of law is sliced into technicalities that have more to do with ensuring certain outcomes then they do in preserving the value of law as a support leg to democracy. In the hypothetical example brought forward "The Clan" as they are known have immunity to engage in nearly any behavior they desire through social protections that create a type of corruption. While this corruption has social roots it could have very real outcomes for citizens, victims, minorities, and others.

The Hypothetical Example

A few local officials that have engaged in corruption and violation of human/civil rights are partly coordinated with a social network that will target people they don't like. The people they choose have irked them in some way, may have said a word of protest over group bullying, perhaps stood for our American values, have something they want, an out group member or a minority. There are many justifications that can be invented when people are creative and surrounded by blind supporters that struggle with adult independent thought. Perhaps they sometimes even tell people they are targeting them because of race, religion or political beliefs to boldly announce intentions. A multitude of complaints by various community members ignored and sometimes retaliated against to keep them quiet. Most of them ended up having some truth because the community stood up for democracy and their values; clan affiliated officials defaulted. While these behaviors would normally be illegal they are sometimes protected and encouraged because of social affiliations and fear that one would be rejected by an "in-group". Where officials were expected to stand for their oaths and purposes of their offices they at times embraced lower values associated with clannism typically experienced in third world entities that have a history of tribal, religious, corrupted, or ethnic oriented misdeeds. 

How Homogeneous Social Corruption Works?

Corruption is a disease and without proper checks n balances it will spread. It spreads through the many small compromises of selfishness. Social, financial, ideological, etc. all play their part in encouraging a level of corruption through setting unamerican perspectives of what the official and unofficial expectations may be. This occurs through implicit social learning tied to cultic sub cultural groups that we may find in the public but also may find more common in clan infiltrated institutions. Such corruption may warp entire systems and may eventually lead to difficulties if not corrected effectively. Ethics and integrity and purity of purpose is essential to the good health of a community. This is also why I advocate for the actualized protection of freedom of religion, freedom of speech, indivisibility of purpose, pursuits of happiness and the Constitution. In some places those are actively thwarted with socially good old boy impunity. 

What Are Some of the Fixes?

What is Most Likely to Happen in Such Situations? Often these clans are rewarded and sometimes a local system might struggle to function fully because of a lack of objective perception. Those who encourage higher performing institutions sometimes can find themselves on a the receiving end of street justice and have in turn no place to turn or express legitimate grievances. While these systems persist for years and decades they are eventually brought into check when they can no longer can contain the knowledge of misbehaviors.  In this hypothetical example, as of present it has not corrected but we can wait to see how the story turns out. It would appear perpetrators were told no but the intent of that is not yet known. It could indicate that there are not enough wider checks and balances to preserve our freedoms if aspects of local systems go amuck and no beneficial adjustments are forthcoming. It may also mean there is positive pro American change. A proof in pudding outcome is the end result of adaptation or failure to adapt.

Creating Second Class Citizens 

Freedom dissipates where extremism, corruption, and lack of commitment to central values abounds. Where there are no options, no rights, no recourse, no protections, or no opportunities you have created second class citizens that are outside of the system and may not be protected by those systems. You have also lost much of their human capital because their God given abilities have no opportunity to develop or shine because they are "locked out" of meaningful engagement or avenues of contribution. No matter the end game, if we fail as a society to maximize human capital we fail to compete. No ideological radicalism can change those mechanics. We all pay the piper of poor system performance. I advocate for general universalism to keep us free, competitive and strong. There should be no second class citizens in our society. We don't get redos.

It's easy to stand up and mouth some words to look good but it can be inconvenient for some who were entrusted with authority to think about the meaning of those words and act to preserve their value. Especially true for some if they don't get an immediate benefit.

Federal Firefighters Pay Scale

Firefighting is one of those occupations that is difficult, underpaid, and comes with all types of risks. It does have some benefits for the people who engage in such occupations and of course it does have benefits for the communities that they serve. Pay and compensation generally has not kept up with inflation or the market value such services would cost.

Part of the reason for the problem is that budgets are not balanced in other arenas and places. Leaders often struggle with budgeting because there are lots of demands but not enough resources and that is having an impact on occupations like firefighting where something like one quarter of jobs are vacant. We could go down a rabbit hole in discussion on the importance of fiscal responsibility but that isn't the purpose of this blog article.

Below you will find some resources on pay increases for firefighters at the federal level. These men and women put themselves at risk because as global warming rises we find increasing frequency and intensity of forest fires.

Somewhere along the line we will need to attract new firefighters as well as put to work new immigrants thereby creating some new opportunities. One possible avenue is to exchange residence for a certain amount of service in occupations such as firefighting. One idea out of many....

I engage in some firefighting and understand some of the concerns.

Federal Firefighter Equity Pay Act HR1235 "Specifically, the bill adjusts the method of determining the average pay of a federal firefighter by adding one-half of a firefighter's basic hourly rate multiplied by the number of overtime hours included as part of such firefighter's regular tour of duty. It also requires the Office of Personnel Management to issue regulations that cap the number of hours in a regular workweek, which may not exceed 60 hours per week."

U.S. Department of Interior Pay Increase: $75 million being allocated to increase wildlife fire pay. 

US Forest Service Pay Rate 2024: 5.2% pay increase across the board for government employees.

The Hypothetical Feather Party Wishes Everyone a Happy 4th of July!

The Fourth of July is a special time in the U.S. and it marks a period where men and women secured their freedoms of self rule and the inherent rights of individuals. The Constitution became the law of the land and a proclamation of our republic. While our forefathers/mothers brought forward that freedom it is the responsibility of our generation and all the generations after them to ensure we stick closely to the Constitution and our values so we can to maintain the world's longest running experiment.

 Where we do well we should applaud, where we have to do work we adjust, where we are confused we should seek answers. We must all take a moment to respect the past and do our part through reflection to support our futures in whatever small way we can. Your responsibility is to be the best you can and use your talents to be a contributor in making your nation and world a little better place.

Tourism Cruises in Escanaba Michigan (Picture)

Tourism is making its way back to Escanaba with increasing geographic interest. As a unique U.P. destination it has been called the tropics because of being on the southern side of the peninsula and on Lake Michigan (vs. colder Superior). From here you can drive, fly and sail to many other locations. If we can get some passenger trains in addition to cruise ships to make their way here it might help in fostering tourism. 

This picture was taken from our local library which encourages reading, learning and other activities. It is within walking distance of many different downtown attractions, park, marina, beaches and more. The city band came out to play. Escanaba Public Library
