Found a Few Potential Fishing Spots (Pics of Escanaba Harbor)

I caught nothing again but It was nice and smooth lake (We need more fish!). I did find a few places to explore that I think the fish may be hiding. I will keep those spots a little secret until I know if there are any actual fish by playing with different bait (fish finder shows bunches). Likely, I will explore in another direction just to see what is over there.

New Interest Rate 3.8%: Return Manufacturing a Possible Long-Term Solution?

The goal stated by Fed Chair Powell is if we raise interest rates we can put demand in line with supply. You can read more about that in 'Federal Reserve Backs Super-Sized Hike, Sees Rates Hitting 3.8%; Dow Jones Rises' How it generally works is that when interest rates rise it makes the use of money more expensive and that in turn impacts consumer spending and again in turn the speed of the economy (In this case slowing it down.).

I still continue to think about inflation and manufacturing. Consumer spending is great as long as we are buying more of our own stuff where the money is retained and makes its way through our supply chain that benefits wages from farmers to truckers. Where we have the highest value in the supply chain we earn the most rewards as a nation and negative impacts of inflation are lessened.

The flip side of buying most of our stuff from overseas is that we as Americans go into debt but other countries are at the center of the supply chain in some industries and reap the rewards of our appetite. In other words, they receive the advantages of our debt. We have done this for a few decades and I think once we look back we realized how much have we sold off some of our opportunities. Alarm bells are ringing.

There is some movement to return manufacturing back to the U.S.. How that impacts inflation I'm not 100% sure but I believe that it does maximize the benefits of any purchases thereby reducing the loss of debt and increase in personal benefits. Thus, maximizing the money, interest, and outputs won't necessarily stop inflation but will retain more of the benefits of that inflation (lost value).

For example, there are pressures from Russia and the war in Ukraine. When supplies are being expending and/or certain supply chains are tapped out we will experience more hardship in terms higher prices (inflation). We and the rest of the world have few other opportunities to find new suppliers and we are not yet able to provide that capacity yet.

That brings up the concept of labor and its shortage. Its hard to increase the economy by completely avoiding high inflation without maximizing labor power. Having wearable tech/robotics, stronger infrastructure, innovation on a grand scale, etc. would also mean labor value and productivity would rise. We are filling labor gaps with new technologies that enhance existing labor productivity (Likely increase on the value of American labor above international labor.).

Notice a lot of discussion on international supply chains and the complex web that is sort of raising cost and reducing supply. June 15th, 2022 FOMC Rate

(I'm just theorizing. It doesn't mean its a scientific fact. Economics are projections and not facts because they are based in human behaviors and choices. What I can say is that....well maybe. 🤷)

New Poll Indicates Most Americans Are Afraid Democracy Will End

A new poll Indicates that 54+% of both political parties feel that Democracy may end. See Poll. (I cannot make a judgement on the poll or its quality because I did not look at their methodology but it sort of seems correct on the surface.) There is around 25% of respondents that are unsure and 25% that think democracy will survive.

What is very concerning is that 52% believe there could be a civil war in the country! What? How selfish and irresponsible (If true!!)

This is what I say. Our leaders have responsibilities beyond their parties, beyond their political-social networks, and beyond their own advantages (Our parties have become more important than our institutions due to personalities and general ideological immaturity! Shame!). They swore an oath and if they dont believe in holding our Republic together they are not fit to lead (Trying to convince the masses to view dicey issues beyond selective attention can sometimes be difficult when people have their favorite news sources, leaders, parties, and preferences)

We have agreed upon institutions and anyone working outside those institutions are suspect. Likely anyone using power over versus power with dynamics is not the type of personality we really want in leadership.

We are not a nation that should bend to power dynamics but should have open, honest, heartfelt discussions based in truth so as to find solutions (Why I advocate for bi partisan compromise). Political manipulations almost always lead to poor results. Love-hate Trump ot Love-hate Biden (or any other candidate) makes no difference.  They are public servants that manage the daily affairs of our nation (executives). They do not and should not have the power to up end our institutions without the broad agreements of our Legislative Branch (representatives)and through the legal challenges decided by our Judicial Branch (wise men/women)! Snuffing out our future for current politics is beyond irresponsible! We can hope and pray that better minds bubble to the top. Why the best and brightest are needed in leadership positions beyond the "connected" class who might be losing their objectivity. ❤❤✌ (Dont listen to me...I have a Muslim sounding name! 🧐😲💨).

Why I Agree With Protecting Justices (Protests Went A Step Too Far!)

It is hard to have justice if people and their families are under threat. While we think that won't have influence it does because protecting our families something written into our DNA. I'm not stating an argument for or against abortion as that is not my central point and my opinion for now is my opinion (Its mute in this discussion). It is about intentionally felling its "ok" to use intimidation tactics to create unfair/dangerous pressure on justices and their families (Some of the people said they were trying to do that and I believe that was part of the whole reason why they were there.).

As a person whose family has been targeted, I know all too well how threats impacts all of choices (To the perpetrators it was good fun because someone stood to gain but to the rest of us we absorbed all the risks.). Entire group of people got in on it because they didn't want a Muslim (and black kids) in their town (At least that is what one of the members told me and while there were other reasons I'm sure that is one that seemed to rally their base unconsciously/consciously.). While many of these people are generally good natured in a homogeneous group it didn't take much to turn them from mediocre ex sports players from 30+ years ago into a mob of flying monkeys.

It only takes one to change the scenario from intimidation to actual danger (Its actually dangerous to have people protesting outside their home because you know not everyone has common sense. Don't believe me? Try driving down the highway and see how many people drive a few feet off your bumper at 75 mph angry that you are not going 90. I've seen semi trucks do this as well. Common sense? Think about it! 🤔). Someone wanted something and got the "bright" idea to steal it and publish it and then someone else got a "great" idea to put protestors right on street at their house as a method of letting them feel the message (How is that critical thinking?) In this case it was a radical left ideology but certainly we have seen radical right adherents do similar aggressive stuff.

The question then becomes when does the immaturity become enough of enough? 😤 When do we pull people back toward a rational center? (Don't listen to me...I have a Muslim sounding name. We just sort of half hear the message about radicalism. There is a reason why I'm saying that. Just hang on......😵). Our politicians need to start working together as a single people solving shared problems with different valid perspectives on important issues of the day (In many ways this legislation seems to be showing they are cable of common sense thinking for important goals.).

However a word of warning to some. The longer some look at the lower values versus the higher values the more we are going to experience these problems and risk losing ground nationally/internationally. We must adapt to our next level of development. (I think the concept of democracy and the opportunities of our children and grand children are worth more then petty spitefulness. Hopefully good and thoughtful politicians will start to call the cadence for the others.)

Firefighting RIT Training: Blind. Loud, and Lots of Energy

Completed some firefighting Rapid Intervention Team (RIT) tonight that included moving into a building, following spaghetti hose and extrication of a body (dummy). Here is a little something on operational guidelines  RIT procedures that I found online. Kind of cool stuff. You have to be in reasonable shape because by the time your done you are hot and sweaty!!

Of course we did this blind and with air packs on. Two man teams (2 RIT teams) that moved into the building and along lots of intentionally confusing hose (Remember we can't see anything so we have to do it blind and by hand.). I had my radio and by the time we finished I was sort of charge of the two teams. Not sure it happened but I was good at keeping command aware of our movements and the location of the teams.

Likewise, I had a pretty good sense of direction even though we couldn't see. I also was the first to make verbal contact with the victim but then lost contact. The good news is I didn't have to drag the dummy this time which sucks!!!! Its not as easy as it looks moving 180lbs dead weight.

We also had some discussion on developing a regional training center for firefighting and other uses. Its a moving process but I think its picking up steam and makes sense consider the facilities we have and the opportunities to build a fire training house/yard that could have multiple purposes.

Lots of crazy stuff happening where training centers would be helpful. I would think it would be something regional/government stakeholders would be interested in. 🤷 Maybe not.

Not our video but a good video anyway. Also if you are a company or person who wants to donate I will hook you up with the right people. We also have needs. Still thinking about that old grass truck. Too much red tape on grants. grrrrrrrr.

Ukraine is Losing Ground: Is this a strategic spot for Russia?

The war is taking a toll on Ukraine and their supplies are being exhausted. They are being outgunned and are loosing ground in Donbas region. The U.S. announced it will try and provide more support and meets with 50 other countries (June 14, 22 U.S. Announces New Supplies). Ukraine is a strategic country and keeps Russia's buffered from the West. I suspect Putin wants to be remembered as a Russian great hero and legacy (i.e. the Peter the Great symbolism) and will fight tooth and nail.

We should also look at the Black Sea and how strategic that is and has been throughout history. Its often seen as a launching site and whoever controls that likely controls the commerce of the area. In essence the sea is pretty much surrounded by pro Russian allies and they want to maintain that political supremacy. A pro Western Ukraine is seen as a major threat to Russia.

Its more than a strategic spot it may also be a piece to a bigger strategy to reinsert Russia back on the world stage as a major player. That can only happen if there are/were deals between China and Russia that include not only oil but also other resources as well (Why China might be so wishy washy on condemnation.). Ukraine made a choice and if we can help them we should do so (We have done a lot already but it does become a place where resources are going to be grinded out. The U.S. must rebuild its manufacturing capacity and the manufacturing of its own equipment. Why we need rapid innovation systems. Another dumb idea I guess. 🤷).

Perhaps Russia has some plans for a major shipping route and other purposes (Russia did have conflict in Georgia not too long ago and blockades against their ports. This is also why we need ports in the U.S. to help develop our own economic strength. i.e. see shipping infrastructure.  Another key point generally sort of brushed over.). Not sure (Alternatively perhaps the EU and "West" would have some strategic advantages of a pro "West" Ukraine and access to their ports.). I'm not sure anyone but Putin and perhaps a few others know their plan.

Let us wait and see but we can pray for the Ukrainian people.

A Few Fishing Tips on the Great Lakes: Coming Up Empty Handed (Part-Time Commercial Fishing License Idea)

Escanaba Harbor
I go out fishing and come back empty handed. I keep think about in how like 5 years I would like to get a commercial fishing boat and fish as a hobby for a local store. If I regularly catch fish I probably would find at least one store that would offer it upon availability. There are a few commercial fisherman to the north in Munising that have tiny stores and still make a living at it.

For me, I have no plans at making a living at it. It would just sort of be fun and allow me to go out a few days a week, fish, look for ship wrecks and do other stuff. It probably won't happen or I will abandon the idea before it ever takes hold but It just sort of a "What if" concept.

It kind of brings up a concept in Michigan about commercial fishing license. Because the stocks have become depleted we have limited commercial licenses. I have heard most of the people hang on to their even though they don't fish anymore. If we can make it sustainable and most of the money goes into create net positives of fish supplies it may have a benefit (I have little political capital and most people won't listen to me because I'm not part of the "connected" crowd and I have a Muslim sounding name which some people will never be able to get around. However.....what I say makes sense. Its not completely thought out or the numbers but theoretically is possible to create sustainable systems if we don't divert for other political purposes.

We always run the risk that some of the difficulties we face in getting people to work together to solve problems such as cleaning and restoring our Great Lakes will force further serious declines in population and the health of the region. Solutions are about problem solving and exploring options. Our political staunchness limits who we listen to, the type of ideas that come forward and the political stakeholders served (To me it is the general will of  society and not any special interest.)

Our leaders are starting to see the benefit of protecting nature and developing future industrial capacity; They aren't mutually exclusive as efficiency in one leads to increased capacity and cleaner footprints. Whoever gave someone the right to destroy something for the benefit of a few without thinking about the long term benefits of the nation and its people?

In many ways I agree with our local Native American population that they have an important role in protecting what belongs to everyone. It is about time we start to listen and take into consideration the long-term eco health of the state and the world's largest body of fresh water (You can lead horses to water but if they don't drink that is a choice.).

It would be an interesting concept if we can restore our Great Lakes fishes and allow part-time commercial licenses with limited catches (Likely 1 hook 1 fish method). We then use the revenue from tax and license fee to put right back into the fish stocks. Not sure how that would work but it might be interesting to allow our local stores/restaurants to sell local fish as a tourism enhancement.

For now I will just work on the other multitude of projects and slowly lollygag toward my idea. LOL

Capitol Riots: Day 2: Baggage of the Past

I wonder how easy it is to rally people to act on information that isn't true, half true, or mixed with truth/falsehood. We seem to continue to vote the same types of people into office and we continue down the same path like blind leading the blind. We believe some people are worth more and some people are worth less. Yet we all have a stake in this country and I'm saddened that what seemed distorted on election day has increasingly morphed into a growing separatist/extremist movement.

We are learning slowly and I suspect with so many people with different beliefs this event will create momentum for change and that will likely push some to completely reject logic all together. So far it seems there are different people in society with different values and opportunities. We have not really broke from those distorted values and we will need to do that to tie us all together in shared common goals.

At present we are still electing people who repeat the silliness of things and are not ideologically worthy to make definitive statements. Most philosophers cannot make definitive statements because wisdom comes from recognizing you don't know many things and must look with clean eyes in each situation (That indecisiveness is more accurate but also more difficult to sell in sound byte format that people understand. Work through thousands of contingencies and you will see why things are dependent.) I step back and wonder if we can see the better path forward or will our "politics as usual" determine the end results.

I applaud those good politicians that are doing what we need to do to succeed as a nation and I am frightened by those who can't work with others or reflect on the errors of their ways. Time will tell whether we overcome or we don't. That clock is ticking and our nation will be tested by that clock as politics, resources and opportunities occupy the same space and force and force us to choose a path that leads to different results (Metaphorically Axis Mundi).

My best advice is that Trump has become a divisive figure and no matter what one believes another run for presidency will likely be chaotic and a net negative for the nation. I say conservatives should encourage Pence to be their leading candidate (At this point there doesn't appear to be another qualified candidate. That doesn't mean Biden was, is, will, or won't be a great Democrat option. It only means conservatives must pick a path. Both gentleman have some positive characteristics to offer beyond the policies we may agree or disagree with.). I'm not saying that because I know either candidate but because the situation calls for moving forward without the baggage of the past.

Threats Against Police and Others Fighting Extremism and Terrorism (Universalizing Society as One Solution)

We have problem brewing and this has come from dicey political structure and often ignoring the signs of extremism (domestic vs. foreign and how that is seen). When such groups start making death threats against police, judges, civilians, politicians and just about anyone they disagree with (or frustrate their efforts) we need to get more serious.

I have been looking at this situation for a while and find that we simply can't selective attention through this (meaning false forms on what this is by skipping big chunks of data) and just like we need to universalize our values we also need to universalize our perception of extremism. It never was a "those people" problem it was I only see "those people" issue.

Let me say there are lots of good people doing the right thing but it takes time to convince people that bi-partisanship on solving problems and developing new methods is helpful (We are still stuck in old paradigms and that is likely to start a switch. Just like we will see a switch as new technology and socio-economic-political factors come into play. Its actually related but its hard to sort of connect all those dots for people. Its abstract but just wait a minute and it will likely make more sense.)

I sort of stole this from the old paradigms link above because its relevant. Albert Einstein  - "If the researcher went about his work without any pre-conceived opinion, how should he be able to select out those facts from the immense abundance of the most complex experience, and just those, which are simple enough to permit lawful connections to be evident?"

The people who engage in violent extremism have little to no remorse and feel a sense of "entitlement" to their behaviors without regard to anyone's safety (No one is immune and a vocal minority from the bottom of society to the top could be involved.💁 What checks this is the general moral conscious of people in positions of power and their willingness to "do the right thing". Something we sort of struggle with sometimes. Its not unique to our society. As a matter of point we are showing we can adapt and overcome. Red Queen.). In the far right national extremist mind they are the "true" Americans and everyone else is on their land (Its the rooted in anger that other people are infringing on them versus them infringing on others. There is also a component of social and financial gain. That is what makes it so irrational. A running analysis of hate. )

We are going to have to ask ourselves some serious questions about our resolve to get politicians and different communities to work together to put the monster under our beds back in its cage. I have a Muslim sounding name so maybe what I say isn't particularly important or valuable (Sorry that is what I have seen in some circles through natural observation; not everyone but enough to know its part of a larger stream of collective consciousness in society. We may have to universalize to overcome that and other competitive problems. I'm not going into it all at the moment but certainly human capital and innovation is part of that universalizing our values and moving further along our line of development as a democratic society. 🤷)

Just like Durkheim discussed in 1893 book 'The Division of Labor in Society' one societal transition we can again discuss as we move into the Digital Era (Yikes a little philosophical but take a minute and think about it.)

Went Golfing Yesterday and I Think I Got Worse!

I went golfing with a friend the other day and I think I actually got worse! Part of me wonders how this silly game got started and then I realize I'm only saying that because I'm frustrated. Success just takes more time, practice and focus. I will not be bested by this little white ball!!! 😤

Just to learn a little more I watched the video below. I like the graphics. I learned two things.

1.) My ball position was too far forward so that is probably why I don't get lift on low numbers.

2.) My angled swing isn't correct. The next time I go out there I will pay attention.
