Water, the worlds most precious resource is in short supply in San Diego. The prolonged drought has impacted cities and farmers across the region leading to higher costs and loss of crops. As the drought continues each of us has a responsibility to use water more sparingly and make small adjustments that lead to higher conservation rates.
We can all do something that allows us to reduce water consumption. Small savings here and there add up over time and create sustainable patterns of behavior. Most of the water we use and waste is based on habit and is not really related to necessity. There are a few places that are easy for you to make changes that can have a big impact.
-Shorter Showers: Showers are relaxing and we can spend a half hour or more just letting the water run. It is better to have either a shorter shower or shut the water off between wetting and rinsing.
-Fix Faucets and Running Toilets: Even if there is a small leak the gallons will keep on accumulating. Making sure everything runs properly is necessary.
-Buy Bottled Water: Drinking water is a popular purchase. You can consider purchasing healthy bottled water and cut back on your faucets a little. Most imported water is from other places.
-Use Full Laundry and Dish Loads: Laundry Machines and Dishwashers take a lot of water. Making sure that you are maximizing by filling the machines up saves lots of water.
-Upgrade to More Efficient Products: As you upgrade your appliances work on finding water efficient products. Water efficient products will have increasing appeal so don't be afraid to invest in the new model when timing is right.
The blog discusses current affairs and development of national economic and social health through unique idea generation. Consider the blog a type of thought experiment where ideas are generated to be pondered but should never be considered definitive as a final conclusion. It is just a pathway to understanding and one may equally reject as accept ideas as theoretical dribble. New perspectives, new opportunities, for a new generation. “The price of freedom is eternal vigilance.”—Thomas Jefferson

Pictures of Leo Carrillo Ranch
Leo Carrillo Ranch Historic Park is located in
Carlsbad California and was once home to the actor Leo Carrillo. It is a 27
acre well manicured location that has been restored to its original beauty. One
can find various plant life, flowers, old fashion buildings, and much more that
represents the early settlers and history of California. You will not want to miss the peacocks and
groove on the property.
Leo Carrillo was from a long line of California
notables. He was an actor and civil servant that spent a great many years doing
both. Born in 1881 and died in 1961 he
spent a great amount of time as a conservationist that tried to protect the land.
He was part of the California Beach and Parks Commission.
It is open most days of the week and is free for
visitors. Free does not mean that it is not in need of funds, donations, and
support. You may want to view and contact the Friends of Carillo organization
to see how you may help at their website
or the City of Carlsbad website.
Address: 6200 Flying Leo Carrillo Ln, Carlsbad, CA 92009

The Secret Surfing of Fletcher's Cove
Fletcher’s Cove is a little known surfing location in Solana
Beach. With a beautiful maintained park, clean and easy access bathrooms, with
plenty of parking lot and street parking you may think it is worth the short
drive to frequent. Once parked you simply walk down a hill and onto a very well
maintained beach. Walls of stone line the entire beach for about a mile to the
Northern coastline.
One of the reasons why this beach is different from many of
the others is that it is North of San Diego and out of way. This means that it is
not packed like many other beaches to the South. In addition to the easy to
find places to sun tan is a lifeguard who should help surfers feel safe. Occasionally
you will even find a food vendor at the top of the hill if you are in the mood
for a bag of chips or hot dog.
The waves are large compared to some of the other beaches I
have been on. You may find that the water is a little murky with sand and seaweed.
Likewise, you should consider the pebbles nestled in the sand if you decide to
jump off your board in shallow water. Other than these few drawbacks, the
overall convenience and the highly maintained area are a benefit making it a surfer’s
secret.
Once you are done surfing you may be interested in walking
to the East for a block to find a number of different restaurants. Hwy 101 is
known for its easy parking and throughway throughout the town. A few blocks
beyond this and you run into Cedros avenue and see the downtown area where
additional eating and shopping outlets are located.
