Festival of Sails provides
a lineup of tall sail ships that make their debut throughout the day at the San
Diego Maritime Museum. As a bonus, just a block to the South, is the U.S. Sand
Sculpting Challenge. You will need to pay to enter both events but if you plan
on taking up the better part of the day you might as well splurge on a holiday.

in the downtown area draw interest and visitors. The events provided during the
holidays are some of the best I have seen and makes for a lively weekend.
Festival of the Sail:
Festival of the Sail hosts
a large tall ship parade. It is even possible to get aboard the ships if you
come early. As ships pass the festival there are mock cannon battles of smoke a
booming attacks. Between watching the action you can walk around the booths,
kid’s area, beer garden, and local goods. On the day I went there wasn’t a
working ATM within the sectioned area so I would suggest bringing money with
you. Found a pair of polarized sunglasses for $15.
US Sand Sculpting Challenge:
The US Sand Sculpting
Challenge brings together professional sand sculptors from around the word.
Each artist works within the sand platforms to build amazing 3D works of art.
To see the detail and fine art chiseled into sand is an awe-inspiring event.
Live bands, booths, and food will be accompanying the sand castle competition.
The themes of the events
offered along the coast is a nice touch. San Diego, with its year round warm
beaches and long maritime traditions, mesh thematically with the two events.
Few things are more attractive to visitors than sand and sails. It is
California thing.

events in downtown San Diego is that it helps draw visitors while branding the
area as attractive for families that live here. The abundance of lively events
attracts new talent to the area. Savvy
