Some of the big discussions were on zoning. Zoning is important because it allows us to understand where and what type of buildings and uses are legal in certain areas. You do need to have order in a city or otherwise people build all types of non-conforming structures and activities that may negatively impact communities. At the same time zoning should think about the strategic objectives of the city and what type of business and activities we need.
If we want to attract this we do X, if we want to attract that we do Z, and if we something else Y. The general strategic plan and current structures sort of guide the way. Zoning is something businesses often pay attention to, because it determines where they can be and not be.
