People donate their time because they care about their community. I found this motivating video. If you get the chance consider contributing and volunteering. Many of these departments struggle with new recruits and sometimes budgets and manpower. There are many ways to contribute ranging from actual firefighting to raising awareness to administration to fundraising. Lots of stuff! These guys and gals don't get paid [or not much] for what they do and certainly this is a good place for our youth to get involved with climate change and other issues. Firefighters are all about good karma and doing good from actual fighting a fire, serving, or responding to accidents.
