Survey of Consumers Rises and Things Look Rosy at End of Year

Preliminary Results for December 2023 from the Survey of Consumers by University of Michigan. You may read the report HERE. What is interesting about this is that it does show the U.S. might be finding a new homeostasis in the global economy and the interest rates decline will lower some of the debt burden.  (Also might be a good time to find a long term resolution for debt. Maybe review costs, effectiveness, objectives, performance, and ways of creating net positives with the most amount of growth impact on society. Life quality and economy.)

A few points....

-Consumer sentiment improved 13% in December

-39% above the all-time low measured in June of 2022

-Surges of over 24% for outlook on business conditions

-Inflation expectations for next year is at 3.1% versus 4.5%

Three Interesting Questions:

These are not really questions one might need an immediate answer. They are only questions of "what ifs" next year looked increasing more stable but also positive in economic trajectory as lots of new infrastructure, geopolitical issues, and other issues seem to settle into a new "normal. One cannot control randomness of world events but we might still say all in all it seems somewhat positive. What might that look like is open to debate.

1. Will we see lower inflation and higher productivity in the U.S. next year?
2. Will this be a sign that we moved into a higher homeostasis platform?
3. What impact on GDP will this have?
