Hate is a powerful motivator for some and it breaks down society. When we see it happening and we fail to step up to the plate we become part of the problem. That is the same for people, groups, officials or leaders. Genuine leadership draws people together and steps up against hate to preserve what is sacred in our society. Hate detracts from our nation and communities and robs it of opportunities.
We can hope that people come to understand the clear difference between right and wrong. Some will always struggle to understand that. I encourage the next generation of leaders to actively thwart hate in official and unofficial positions by passing new laws and enforcing old ones. I believe developing our national human capital with opportunities for everyone creates net positives.
I applaud their efforts and hope other places also do something similar. The more people are against hate, the more we can teach the rest of society to reject the aphrodisiac and short term highs of mistreating others. We should encourage people to socially look down on hate in all forms.
