It is hard to have justice if people and their families are under threat. While we think that won't have influence it does because protecting our families something written into our DNA. I'm not stating an argument for or against abortion as that is not my central point and my opinion for now is my opinion (Its mute in this discussion). It is about intentionally felling its "ok" to use intimidation tactics to create unfair/dangerous pressure on justices and their families (Some of the people said they were trying to do that and I believe that was part of the whole reason why they were there.).
As a person whose family has been targeted, I know all too well how threats impacts all of choices (To the perpetrators it was good fun because someone stood to gain but to the rest of us we absorbed all the risks.). Entire group of people got in on it because they didn't want a Muslim (and black kids) in their town (At least that is what one of the members told me and while there were other reasons I'm sure that is one that seemed to rally their base unconsciously/consciously.). While many of these people are generally good natured in a homogeneous group it didn't take much to turn them from mediocre ex sports players from 30+ years ago into a mob of flying monkeys.
It only takes one to change the scenario from intimidation to actual danger (Its actually dangerous to have people protesting outside their home because you know not everyone has common sense. Don't believe me? Try driving down the highway and see how many people drive a few feet off your bumper at 75 mph angry that you are not going 90. I've seen semi trucks do this as well. Common sense? Think about it! 🤔). Someone wanted something and got the "bright" idea to steal it and publish it and then someone else got a "great" idea to put protestors right on street at their house as a method of letting them feel the message (How is that critical thinking?) In this case it was a radical left ideology but certainly we have seen radical right adherents do similar aggressive stuff.
The question then becomes when does the immaturity become enough of enough? 😤 When do we pull people back toward a rational center? (Don't listen to me...I have a Muslim sounding name. We just sort of half hear the message about radicalism. There is a reason why I'm saying that. Just hang on......😵). Our politicians need to start working together as a single people solving shared problems with different valid perspectives on important issues of the day (In many ways this legislation seems to be showing they are cable of common sense thinking for important goals.).
However a word of warning to some. The longer some look at the lower values versus the higher values the more we are going to experience these problems and risk losing ground nationally/internationally. We must adapt to our next level of development. (I think the concept of democracy and the opportunities of our children and grand children are worth more then petty spitefulness. Hopefully good and thoughtful politicians will start to call the cadence for the others.)
