Firefighting RIT Training: Blind. Loud, and Lots of Energy

Completed some firefighting Rapid Intervention Team (RIT) tonight that included moving into a building, following spaghetti hose and extrication of a body (dummy). Here is a little something on operational guidelines  RIT procedures that I found online. Kind of cool stuff. You have to be in reasonable shape because by the time your done you are hot and sweaty!!

Of course we did this blind and with air packs on. Two man teams (2 RIT teams) that moved into the building and along lots of intentionally confusing hose (Remember we can't see anything so we have to do it blind and by hand.). I had my radio and by the time we finished I was sort of charge of the two teams. Not sure it happened but I was good at keeping command aware of our movements and the location of the teams.

Likewise, I had a pretty good sense of direction even though we couldn't see. I also was the first to make verbal contact with the victim but then lost contact. The good news is I didn't have to drag the dummy this time which sucks!!!! Its not as easy as it looks moving 180lbs dead weight.

We also had some discussion on developing a regional training center for firefighting and other uses. Its a moving process but I think its picking up steam and makes sense consider the facilities we have and the opportunities to build a fire training house/yard that could have multiple purposes.

Lots of crazy stuff happening where training centers would be helpful. I would think it would be something regional/government stakeholders would be interested in. 🤷 Maybe not.

Not our video but a good video anyway. Also if you are a company or person who wants to donate I will hook you up with the right people. We also have needs. Still thinking about that old grass truck. Too much red tape on grants. grrrrrrrr.
