Sahara-A Taste of the Middle East nestled in the
downtown area of El Cajon offers authentic ethnic food for a low price. Two
people can eat with tax for under $21. That is a great price for California.
Soups, salads, sandwiches and shawarma are on the menu. Customers rave about
the community of food that swirls around the place. Families appear to come
back on a regular basis.
Sahara’s has indoor and outdoor seating. It
maintains a cafeteria style design where people make an order in the line and
then are issued a number to take to their table. Drinks are offered in a
fountain fashion. Think of a Middle Eastern Ponderosa.
The restaurant is very busy and seems to have a huge
ethnic following. It is generally busy with people coming in and out throughout
the day. The owner has started a successful business and appears to be actively
engage in making sure everything runs smoothly.
Many people think of only high end restaurants being
successful. Each market carries certain demographics of customers and
exclusivity can sometimes be just that. A reasonably priced restaurant that
offers something different than its competitors can be more successful. Sahara
seems to have found the right mix between price and uniqueness that encourages
market interest.
